The Flemish Pewter Society was established in 1980 and has as mission the spreading of knowledge about old pewter and the objects made of it.
At present the association has about one hundred members from Belgium, the Netherlands and the surrounding countries.
It may be added that a number of museums and archives have for many years been loyal members of the association.
A General Assembly is organised twice a year, as well as a visit to a museum which is specialised in antiques and old pewter objects.
At the General Assembly experts give presentations on old pewter, pewterers and their marks. It is also possible to have pewter objects evaluated during the meetings.
We draw your attention to the fact that the Flemish Pewter Society has no commercial purposes.
On the page "Geschiedenis" you will find a number of interesting facts about pewter and its history.
The following subjects are briefly described: the discovery of pewter, the sites where pewter is found, the use, the organisation of the crafts, the French revolution as turning point and finally the more recent pewter.
The members' magazine “Tinnewerck” is issued twice a year
Each issue counts approximately 50 pages. The magazine contains the minutes of the meetings together with a whole range of pewter related articles and archive researches.
The magazine is published on glossy paper and contains many pictures.
On the page “Tinnewerck” of this site, you can find the table of contents of all previous issues.
The first upcoming issue (nr. 70) will be published june 2022.
We still have copies available of back issues, which can be ordered through the online "Order form" ( bestelformulier ).
